This simple adapter allows you to control any HD44780 LCD display with an 8-bit parallel interface via the RS232C serial interface. With an additional converter USB - TTL or CAN bus - TTL it is possible to control the LCD display via USB or CAN bus. The adapter is based on three TLL circuits and one RS-232 interface circuit. Since no microcontroller is used, no programming is required. The LCD display is controlled with simple AT commands from any serial console (home computer, industrial device, PC or other computer). The serial line uses the 8N1 protocol and any speed between 2000 bps and 120 kpbs. The adapter detects the speed.

The adapter measures 2.35" x 2.2" (60 x 56 mm). The 14-pin output connector (0.1 inch pitch) is pin-compatible with most standard LCD displays with an 8-bit interface. This allows for an easy direct connection between the adapter and the LCD display. The output connector can be mounted on either the top or bottom. The adapter is powered by a +5V power supply.
